Just Registered OlympicsTalk.com

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

The name speaks for itself.  Again I am suprised at the types of forum based domain names which are dropping lately.  This will definitely be a domain which I will sit on for a while as it has great development potential.

PS: Its amazing what focusing does for a domainer…

Just Registered ScarfaceForum.com

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Another diamond in the drops.  The movie itself has a cult like following and the searches conducted point to scarfaceforum.com being a winner.  On a personal scale, I pretty much registered this domain because I truly do love the movie.  It is one of those must have’s for a movie collection and since I am a domainer I figured I would apply the same methodology.  Between the movie and the video game release, who knows what the future might hold for the “Scarface” brand.

Fired My Virtual Assistant

Friday, September 26th, 2008

If you remember back a few posts, I was actually quite excited about hiring a virtual assistant.  This person or organization was responsible for updating me on forum based domain names which dropped on a daily basis.  In addition to that the virtual assistant was also responsible for researching datacenters located within the United States.  All information was to be presented in a spreadsheet daily.  To my disappointment the organization that I chose to conduct these tasks did not pay attention to detail and never turned in a research task at the scheduled time.  Although I had great hopes for a virtual assistant to help me with both my personal and business tasks, this organization was unable to provide me with an effective replacement for an assistant here in the states.  The following flaws have lead to this decision:

1.  Not being able to effectively track the hours worked by the virtual assistant.

2.  Time zone issues with the virtual assistant being based in India.

3.  Not being able to effectively communicate the urgency of a set task to the virtual assistant.

4.  Being over billed for tasks that would of taken a fourth of the time for me to complete myself.

I will definitely try other (VA) services in the future, but I have decided to delay seeking for one at this time.  I actually found a program which could complete the tasks I needed done as far as domain names are concerned called imacros, with a little tweaking this program will be able to search the dropped lists and record all data found into a csv file.  Once I get the hang of how to utilize the vast set of features that imacros offers I will describe exactly how I was able to utilize it for domaining and keep from paying someone to do this work for me.

Financing Domains?

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Trend, fad or booming business?  Whatever you want to call it I have recently noticed the development of financing businesses popping up everywhere, focusing in on the domainer.  What I am about to say, might not be nice but it is purely my opinion.  If you are unable to afford a domain name, you should probably not borrow against the house to acquire one!  This concept makes me think of people financing rims on there cars at rediculous interest rates!  In the end they have paid more money in financing fees for the rims then the entire cost of the car.  On a financing scale, yes there is money to be made in our industry and I am one of the firm believers that this industry has yet to be tapped to the point of no return.  Lets take a step back for a minute and let our industry continue to flourish before the advent of any domain financing companies.  We are a strong industry full of serial entrepreneurs constantly turning the average joe into a domaining millionaire.  What makes us great as domainers is we are capable of making the impossible possible, by accomplishing our goals, one domain at a time.  The minute we let these financing groups into the industry is the minute our industry enters bubble stage!  Just say no to financing domains, lets not let this control our beloved industry!

Selling Televise.org

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

In my yahoo domains account I had a domain televise.org sitting around parked at sedo for quite a while.  This was one of the domains that I registered back in 2004 while I was focused on registering keywords listed in the dictionary.  Since my focus has since drifted to registering more readily available domains that can be used to build forum based communities, I have decided to liquidate a few of the keyword domains that I currently have.  I approached three parties in regards to selling this domain, one of which owned both televise.com and televise.net, unfortunately this specific company did not respond to my inquiries.  I also contacted both domainnamecash.com and buydomains.com, both companies responded with interest and made offers.  I’ve decided to move forward with the offer provided by buydomains.com after a bit of negotiation, because I feel that the offer was fair.  I am now in the transaction process and will be receiving a check in the mail in the next two weeks.  Not bad for a domain which cost me $30 to maintain over the last 3 years.  For those of you who are interested in the final price sold, it was a reasonable amount for a .org of this nature.  ;)

A Message From Rick Latona

Friday, September 19th, 2008

The industry knows Rick Latona as the “goto guy.”  I’ve read some information on how he brokers $1,000,000 in domains on a monthly basis.  Since I am a small fry, I figured why not consult one of the head hanchos in our industry with my new acquisition shoeforum.net!  To say the least there is a great deal of potential in the domain itself, but it circulates around the idea of being developed.  This domain is not one that will just fly off the charts with amazing amounts of traffic.  You can view the potential by simply visiting shoeforum.com, which indeed appears to be a successful venture.  I’ve never contacted Rick before and figured I would submit my domain to him based upon the publicity which surrounds him.  He obviously has a focus and knows how to appeal to the masses with his newsletter.  I am not sure how many people tend to receive this newsletter on a monthly basis, but I am sure he generates a great deal of sales simply by including domains he is brokering within it.  Within a few minutes I received a new message in my inbox which stated the following:

Jason,

Thanks for thinking of me but I’m afraid I wouldn’t be interested in listing this name.

Rick

This reply was straight and to the point!  What can I say, he got his point across and went right onto the next inquiry he probably received.  In the end it is strictly business, different strokes for different folks.  I shall continue my quest to acquire as many forum domains as possible.  Since the US is currently experiencing a recession, I am starting to notice that more and more valuable forum based domain names are expiring daily.  I will make sure to be there to pick all of the good ones up!  One of these days I hope to meet individuals like Rick and network with them.  Keep up the good work as you are definitely a huge asset to the domaining industry.

PS:  I’ve decided that I will be developing shoeforum.net, I did a quick analysis on google and found about 2,900 users a month utilizing the keyword “shoe forum” during searches and the search term “shoe forum” is indexed about 13,000,000 times.  Lastly, you can never have enough shoe forums, just take a look in your girlfriend or wife’s closet. LOL!

Just Registered InternshipForum.com and ShoeForum.net

Friday, September 19th, 2008

It’s been a busy week for me.  I will get into more of that later, but today the one domain that I registered off of a drop has put the icing on the cake for me.  I was able to register ShoeForum.net for the total price of $7.69!  You know that feeling that you get when you find a good domain name, your heart starts racing and you just can’t wait until you check out.  That is the exact feeling I felt today when I found out that shoeforum dropped, it almost felt like the rest of the domaining world was blind folded and I was the only one that was not.  Internshipforum was my highlight for the day until I realized that shoeforum.net was also available.  This is a great way to start a weekend and I think I might celebrate a bit.

Best Regards,

Jason Thompson

PS:  I’ve got some news coming up about a  .org of mine which had been sitting in my Yahoo account for a few years.  Lets just say once the deal has bee sealed I will be smiling just a little more.  Just remember, that if you chase after what everyone else is registering you leave yourself open to failure.  If you concentrate your efforts and focus that attention on the next opportunity, you create a solid infrastructure to build upon.

To put it short, in the domaining world don’t fall for the hype!

Jason Thompson

Register what you believe in!

Monday, September 15th, 2008

Domain forums are full of so called “professional domainers” providing speculation on topics that they really don’t understand!  Today’s topic is registering what you believe in!  Don’t think twice about a domain, the minute that you hesitate is the minute that you miss an opportunity to be part of the future.  It sounds corny I know, but domaining is all about registering what you as an individual believe in.  There are too many doubters out there looking to destroy the dreams of up and coming domainers.  Ignore these people and classify them as being TOXIC.  That’s right I said toxic, as in stay far away from individuals like this!  They especially tend to thrive in the domaining world.  If you are into learning more about this concept, feel free to pick up the following book:

“The Power of Focus” by By Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, Les Hewitt

On page 126 the book zones in on saying no to toxic people.  As with anything a negative mindset will not only bring down the person dreaming up such thoughts, but it will also effect those that the individual interacts with.  Staying away from people like this will allow you to register what you believe in without feeling as if you made a mistake.  Domaining is an industry which was built on hardworking risk takers who were willing to take these calculated risks regardless of what people said at the time.  This is a mindset you have to have within this industry, be fearless with your domain registrations and continue to believe in what you are doing.

My rant for today!

Jason Thompson

Just Registered 10 Domains

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

This is a mixture of drops and hand registered domains. I spent about 30 minutes if not more trying to find the right Go Daddy coupon code.  In the end I found this code:  gdp0902ab

Code Description:

SAVE 25%* on every .COM, .NET, .ORG, .BIZ, .US, .NAME and .WS domain name you buy or renew at Go Daddy.

I was able to register the following 10 domains for $76.90 with this code:

krumptalk.com
bikiniforum.net
devilforum.net
foamforum.com
givingforum.net
goforum.net
loomforum.com
stressforum.net
anxietytalk.net
merchantforum.net

I am very proud of these domain registrations, infact I am quite shocked that some of them were actually available to register.  I noticed that krump is actually an extremely popular word which describes a type of dance form.  I heard the word before, but when I ran into this site I knew there was a great deal of value in developing a forum around it:

http://www.krumpkings.com/forum/

Looks like the krump community might have a professional forum backing it in the near future. ;)
