While browsing the web today I started to conduct a little research on the hype surrounding the four letter domain name.  With four letter .com’s selling for a pretty penny, I decided to look towards the future.  If the .com 4 letter domains have already reached a pinnacle, why not look towards the next big thing and start registering some .net domains?  Whelp, if you have read previous posts on my blog you would know that I am concentrating my efforts on forum domains.  I am a strong believer in communities and forum domains are crucial to branding such a community.  As for four letter .net’s I feel one would be lucky.  As with any domain most end-users are searching for a .com and only settle for a .net if they have to.  Back to my point here, as a domainer I personally feel that investing in a four letter domain name might be worth it, but it obviously has to have some sort of meaning to it.  The less meaning a four letter domain has then registering the name itself as a .com is crucial, otherwise you are simply wasting your money.  If your domain has a sought after meaning or represents a dictionary word then you are in the gold for both .com and .net but if you would like to take a risk then look into perhaps registering some of the available 4 letter .net’s that I found today:

hynj.net

mlnz.net  (I am making this abbreviation up, but this could potentially be used for Merrill Lynch New Zealand, I might be kicking myself in the head for this one later.)

mutw.net (MUTW - Mokotowskiego Uniwersytetu Trzeciego Wieku)

nfiq.net

nqsa.net (NIST Fingerprint Image Quality.  It is a fingerprint matching system.  Could be used for the security industry!)

If you are into four letter .net domain names then enjoy the list, keep in mind these are domains which dropped recently as that is how I conducted my research.  You would be amazed at the number of four letter .org’s which are available, but that’s another story!
