A Message From Rick Latona

Friday, September 19th, 2008

The industry knows Rick Latona as the “goto guy.”  I’ve read some information on how he brokers $1,000,000 in domains on a monthly basis.  Since I am a small fry, I figured why not consult one of the head hanchos in our industry with my new acquisition shoeforum.net!  To say the least there is a great deal of potential in the domain itself, but it circulates around the idea of being developed.  This domain is not one that will just fly off the charts with amazing amounts of traffic.  You can view the potential by simply visiting shoeforum.com, which indeed appears to be a successful venture.  I’ve never contacted Rick before and figured I would submit my domain to him based upon the publicity which surrounds him.  He obviously has a focus and knows how to appeal to the masses with his newsletter.  I am not sure how many people tend to receive this newsletter on a monthly basis, but I am sure he generates a great deal of sales simply by including domains he is brokering within it.  Within a few minutes I received a new message in my inbox which stated the following:

Jason,

Thanks for thinking of me but I’m afraid I wouldn’t be interested in listing this name.

Rick

This reply was straight and to the point!  What can I say, he got his point across and went right onto the next inquiry he probably received.  In the end it is strictly business, different strokes for different folks.  I shall continue my quest to acquire as many forum domains as possible.  Since the US is currently experiencing a recession, I am starting to notice that more and more valuable forum based domain names are expiring daily.  I will make sure to be there to pick all of the good ones up!  One of these days I hope to meet individuals like Rick and network with them.  Keep up the good work as you are definitely a huge asset to the domaining industry.

PS:  I’ve decided that I will be developing shoeforum.net, I did a quick analysis on google and found about 2,900 users a month utilizing the keyword “shoe forum” during searches and the search term “shoe forum” is indexed about 13,000,000 times.  Lastly, you can never have enough shoe forums, just take a look in your girlfriend or wife’s closet. LOL!

Just Registered InternshipForum.com and ShoeForum.net

Friday, September 19th, 2008

It’s been a busy week for me.  I will get into more of that later, but today the one domain that I registered off of a drop has put the icing on the cake for me.  I was able to register ShoeForum.net for the total price of $7.69!  You know that feeling that you get when you find a good domain name, your heart starts racing and you just can’t wait until you check out.  That is the exact feeling I felt today when I found out that shoeforum dropped, it almost felt like the rest of the domaining world was blind folded and I was the only one that was not.  Internshipforum was my highlight for the day until I realized that shoeforum.net was also available.  This is a great way to start a weekend and I think I might celebrate a bit.

Best Regards,

Jason Thompson

PS:  I’ve got some news coming up about a  .org of mine which had been sitting in my Yahoo account for a few years.  Lets just say once the deal has bee sealed I will be smiling just a little more.  Just remember, that if you chase after what everyone else is registering you leave yourself open to failure.  If you concentrate your efforts and focus that attention on the next opportunity, you create a solid infrastructure to build upon.

To put it short, in the domaining world don’t fall for the hype!
