Facebook Land Rush I Got Lucky!

Friday, June 12th, 2009

I didn’t realize there was a facebook land rush tonight until 20 to 30 minutes before it actually occurred.  Once I read a few blogs about the land rush I decided to come up with a plan. The plan consisted of writing down a few terms that I was interested in registering.  Although I thought about registering generic keywords I decided to go after the industry that I love and came up with the following:

1. domain

2. domaining

3. domainer

4. domainname

Luckily instead of wasting my time typing in domain, I jumped right to the word domaining and it was available for me to register!  Now everyone can go directly to www.facebook.com/domaining to add me as a friend.  This will be an extremely valuable tool for me to network with other domainers in the industry as well as getting the end-user interested in domaining or purchasing domains.  I am going to outline exactly what steps I want to take with the name, it will be an exciting trip!

Geo Directional Domains I Almost Enterted In a BIG Way!

Friday, May 15th, 2009

This morning was a very productive one for me.  Today I almost found myself entering into geo directional domains in a tremendous way.  What sparked me to get into this was the bido.com auction for eastoakland.com that went for over $500 or so.  Many of the bido experts including myself felt it was worth a great deal more than this.  Anyhow you now know would created my spark, now what halted it?  The word central halted it.  The only geo directional domains available for the united states were ones that included the word central.  Now the problem with this is I am quite skeptical about about the word central.  How many people really think of the word central when typing in a city let alone a state?  So I did some comparative analysis on this and came up with the conclusion that unless you own South Central Los Angeles it really isn’t worth the time or money trying to develop it.  Don’t get me wrong there are searches for some of the central areas of a state, but too commonly I am finding that people would rather type in the basic north, south, east, west combinations.  My loss today is your gain, I spent hours today look at what state geo directional domains are still available.  If you feel definite about the central domain as many other domainers obviously do since a number of the south central state domain combinations are taken, here is a list of available domains for you to register:

Just registered RAPFORUM.US

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

I can’t begin to tell you how long I have been waiting for a rapforum combination to drop from the domain registry.  Last year I almost purchased RapForum.org for an outlandish price.  Lets just say that I am glad that I did not, because RapForum.us makes entirely more sense when it comes to branding purposes and it only cost me around $10.  This domain name dropped from the registry recently and I really am surprised that I was able to register it before anyone else did.  All of the TLD for this domain are taken as well as the .info extension.  From the looks of it the only developed domain is RapForum.info and it definitely looks like it was a failed attempt due to the amount of spam which is currently located on the forum itself.  The TLDs of the domain are either parked or suspended hosting accounts (RapForum.com LOL!).  This gives me a clear path to develop a quality brand.  First, I will either switch one of my vbulletin licenses over to the new domain or register a new license.  Second, I will pay for a custom design for the forum itself as it is important to separate your brand from the masses.  After those two steps are done I will create only a few sections for people to post in and use a combination effort between PPC and recruiting members from other forums to build the site membership.  I really do feel this will be a successful venture and one that I will enjoy as I am an avid listener of this genre of music.

They Came They Saw They Got Distracted

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

As the old quote goes, “they came, they saw, they conquered” I didn’t quite get to the conquered portion.  It was a slow day at work, so I decided to hop on one of my favorite sites “justdropped.com” and began searching for a few domain names.  After running into a few drops for forum based domains that did not catch my eye, I went ahead and started searching outside of the typical scope that I have set for myself.  Danger!  You have entered the toxic lands of your thought process going wild.  Where in the world did my focus go?  It went right out of the window, but then again for those of you that read this posting and see what I have registered, you might actually think that it made complete sense.  The number 4 does that ring a bell, well it sure did for me as it can be interpreted in many different ways.  I saw the number 4 as being a position holder for he word FOR.  Then it came time for the power abbreviation, the letter n and the letter y.  The first thing that came to mind was new years and new york.  The next thing that came to mind was where to find a Godaddy coupon code so I could register this gem.  I logged into my gmail account and located the last email that Godaddy sent entitled “Domain Special: Order now and SAVE 10%!”  Are you wondering what this code is?  Since I am a nice guy here it goes: gdp1006p

Back to the story, I was amazed that again no one had registered such a domain.  The value for the domain for me is not the fact that it is three characters, it stands in the fact that the letters ny have such a deep meaning within our American culture.  The domain is so easy to remember, I keep repeating it to myself and am now wondering if I will dream about it.  As with anything its now time to find a buyer.  At times I might drift away from the focal point of my domain portfolio but in this case I feel that it was worth it. :)

Everyone clap your hands to the future of 4ny.us, as you might just locate that big new years party you’ve been looking to attend or perhaps you wanted to visit new york one of these days!  Back to focusing, maybe I will let you in on how I registered a dictionary domain at the wee hours of the morning when I was having trouble sleeping!

Just Registered TeaForum.net

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Using the Godaddy discount code: gdp0931q (I was able to save 10%)

This domain is quite a catch for me, it was hand regged and I am quite the tea nut. This will definitely be a domain that I spend time developing. One thing I noticed was all the teatalk (TLD) were taken, so were teaforum.com and teaforum.org, but the wonderful teaforum.net was available. This makes the domain even more valuable! Time to get to work!

The name speaks for itself.  Again I am suprised at the types of forum based domain names which are dropping lately.  This will definitely be a domain which I will sit on for a while as it has great development potential.

PS: Its amazing what focusing does for a domainer…

Just Registered ScarfaceForum.com

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Another diamond in the drops.  The movie itself has a cult like following and the searches conducted point to scarfaceforum.com being a winner.  On a personal scale, I pretty much registered this domain because I truly do love the movie.  It is one of those must have’s for a movie collection and since I am a domainer I figured I would apply the same methodology.  Between the movie and the video game release, who knows what the future might hold for the “Scarface” brand.

Just Registered InternshipForum.com and ShoeForum.net

Friday, September 19th, 2008

It’s been a busy week for me.  I will get into more of that later, but today the one domain that I registered off of a drop has put the icing on the cake for me.  I was able to register ShoeForum.net for the total price of $7.69!  You know that feeling that you get when you find a good domain name, your heart starts racing and you just can’t wait until you check out.  That is the exact feeling I felt today when I found out that shoeforum dropped, it almost felt like the rest of the domaining world was blind folded and I was the only one that was not.  Internshipforum was my highlight for the day until I realized that shoeforum.net was also available.  This is a great way to start a weekend and I think I might celebrate a bit.

Best Regards,

Jason Thompson

PS:  I’ve got some news coming up about a  .org of mine which had been sitting in my Yahoo account for a few years.  Lets just say once the deal has bee sealed I will be smiling just a little more.  Just remember, that if you chase after what everyone else is registering you leave yourself open to failure.  If you concentrate your efforts and focus that attention on the next opportunity, you create a solid infrastructure to build upon.

To put it short, in the domaining world don’t fall for the hype!

Jason Thompson

Just Registered DiscountTalk.com and EnergyDrinkTalk.com

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

It always feels good to find a deal and I definitely found one today in two domains which represent interests of mine.  I love finding a good deal and tend to frequent the dealnews.com website on a daily basis.  What better way to search for deals then a forum about discounts!  Hence, I am really contemplating on developing this one, but for now I am buying up as many of these domains as possible to build one massive forum portfolio.  I also have been a user (abuser) of energy drinks.  Like the way I phrased that?  Everyone has their vices and at one time energy drinks were definitely one of mine.  Although I don’t consume them much anymore it is definitely a popular subject here in the United States and developing a forum on such a topic is bound to receive a great deal of publicity.  I am laughing to myself because both of these domains actually dropped from the registry recently and were provided to me in spreadsheet format from my Virtual Assistant in India. :)

I am sure there are some other great domains in the list I was provided with, so feel free to register them:

Just Registered: CitizenshipTalk.com

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Just completed the registration of CitizenshipTalk.com at GoDaddy.  I registered the domain for a total price of $7.15 using the GoDaddy coupon code OYH3, this code takes $3.00 per .com off that you register.  In my opinion with all of the immgiration talks going on within the United States this domain is extremely valuable.  Now the only decision left for me is to either put it on the market or establish the site as an informative message board for those who have questions on the topic.  I was able to locate an interesting site called immigrationportal.com and I can now see what it will take to develop such a site.  If I do decide to develop the site I will use immigrationportal.com as my skeleton for doing so.  Anyhow, back to domaining I go!  lets see what hidden gem I am able to find next.

I want to thank my virtual assistant for providing me with the spreadsheet that said CitizenshipTalk.com was actually avaiable to register. :)  They after all did the majority of the research for me.  Here are some other domains you might find interesting that they have found available to register:
