Microsoft Acquires Domain Name Office.com

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Microsoft LogoMicrosoft has entered into the online search market like a 800 pound gorilla! There innovative search engine, bing.com has quickly become the engine of choice for many users. Network television is plastered with marketing campaigns pertaining to Microsoft’s new creation, so it is no surprise to me that when Microsoft acquired the domain name office.com only a few news sources actually took the time to write about it! Operating with great precision and lightning speed, Microsoft has acquired a domain name (under the radar) that some say will be used to offer an online suite of office tools.

You have to commend Microsoft in this move, they definitely understand the power of a domain name and are going directly after the competition with no hesitation. It almost seems like an epic story is unfolding before our eyes, with Microsoft following the exact rules of engagement outlined within Sun Tzu’s “Art of War”.

Last month Microsoft promised consumers a free scaled down version of Office Web and from the looks of it they are preparing to deliver. Although no numbers have been revealed on this domain acquisition, I believe Microsoft paid whatever the seller asked for.

Bing.com Has A Ways To Go For The Domaining Industry

dnpimping_domaining_binglogoWhen I feel like conducting a few searches about the domaining world I tend to go to google news and search for the keyword domaining. Tonight I decided to change it up a bit and try the news function located on bing. The search itself provided disappointing results! It looks like the bing search engine, one that I have come to appreciate has not yet done much in the area of indexing websites that carry domaining news.

For now I will have to continue to depend on google news and the google alert system to keep me up to date on what’s hot in the domaining world. Bing I will give you another chance, but it won’t be for another month or so. Lets just hope your results improve! Here is a screen shot of the search results that bing provided me with. There is a great deal of improvement to be made with the bing search engine, with all the news hype about how they are catching up with google this proves that they are still far behind!
